(Upcyclelino) Shibori-Dyed Linen Cotton Poplin Shirt

This band-collar shirt is made from plain-woven fabric using linen No. 40 yarn for the warp and recycled cotton-linen yarn (single yarn, cotton count No. 15) for the weft. It features shibori dyeing techniques and is designed as a timeless piece suitable for all seasons. With a relaxed wide fit, this shirt allows for excellent breathability, making it a comfortable choice even in the height of summer. The band collar retains CONFECT’s signature relaxed shirt aesthetic, while the dye pattern produced through shibori is carefully considered in the design and patterning to ensure it appears clearly and beautifully. The dyeing method used is Arimatsu shibori, a traditional Japanese resist dyeing technique rooted in Nagoya and regarded as one of the three major shibori styles in Japan. While Arimatsu shibori is traditionally applied to items like tenugui, kimono, and yukata using flat sheets of fabric, such methods often result in significant fabric loss and inefficiencies in garment production. To address this, we have employed post-construction dyeing to replicate the shibori effect. By applying the shibori dyeing technique to the finished garment, the transition of the pattern between the sleeves and body appears more natural and cohesive. Each piece is hand-dyed, meaning no two shirts are exactly alike—every shirt is one-of-a-kind and special.
