A unique pants with design inspiration from a time when clothing was still expensive and scarce. To protect their everyday clothes from getting dirty during farm work, people would wear an additional pair of pants over their regular clothes. These pants were simple, lacking pockets, and were secured around the waist and ankles with cords. Incorporating practicality, the pants feature side patched pockets inspired from Japanese "koshi-mino" or traditional waist aprons used for agricultural work. The addition of an elasticated waistband creates a balanced silhouette reminiscent of work pants from that era while considering the necessary range of movement for farm work.
These pants is crafted from American and Australian cotton produced in Nishiwaki, Hyogo prefecture Japan. The fabric's unique characteristic is derived from the warp yarn, which is specially spun using a 1970s spinning machine. This process creates an irregular texture that adds a natural and distinctive character to the material. Additionally, the inclusion of nep yarn in the weft further enhances the fabric's natural texture. The fabric then undergoes a washed process and a dry touch finish, resulting in a vintage-like feel. These Farmer Pants are ethical dyed using natural dyes made from discarded red tea leaves from Okayama Prefecture and green tea leaves from Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Finished with a silicone softener to mimic the softness and crispness of well-worn pants, achieving a balance between comfort and structure.
