This fabric is a yarn-dyed chambray made from 100% hemp. Due to the inherently stiff and uneven nature of hemp fibers—often marked by slubs and occasional pinholes—producing a fabric made entirely from hemp requires advanced weaving skills and a slow weaving process to maintain quality and consistency. Even after weaving, hemp tends to retain its natural stiffness. To address this, the fabric undergoes an extended softening process where it is carefully tumbled and kneaded over time. This results in a finish that balances hemp’s natural firmness with a smoother, softer handfeel, while preserving the fabric’s structure. Hemp is not an easy fiber to handle, and yarn-dyed chambray made entirely from hemp is particularly difficult to produce. The complex nature of dyeing and weaving this fabric makes it a rare and technically demanding material.
